Current Favourites: Foundation Routine

September 30, 2012

Now the weather is turning autumnal and I’ve lost the *minescule* amount of sun-colour I pick up in July and August, it’s been back to pale and interesting with my foundation routine. I’ve gone from using a mix of two shades of the Rimmel Wake Me Up, to only using the paler shade, 100 Soft Ivory, and pairing it with the Rimmel Match Perfection illuminating concealer. I still really love Wake Me Up – a foundation that punches far above it’s weight. It’s still £3 off at Boots at the moment, making it just £5.99 – such a good deal! I reviewed it back in February and my love of it is still going strong. I wasn’t wowed by the match perfection concealer when I first picked it up as I felt it was a little too pale for me and my under eye area needed more cover. My under eyes…

Face Of The Day: How Much Is That Blogger In The Window?

Hello everyone! The title of this post could have been more accurately “How Much Is The Combined Value Of All The Cosmetic Products On The Face Of This Bloger If She Were To Repurchase Them All Today?” but obviously, that wouldn’t fit! I’ve been watching the brilliant, inspiring videos by make-up artist duo Pixiwoo. If you haven’t seen any of their videos, I urge you to click and watch a few. They’re so brilliant at demonstrating how to apply make-up looks and how to use specific products, amazing. Anyway, the video below really caught my attention     The object of the challenge is to buy a full-face of make up for £2o. Sam doesn’t quite manage it and goes over budget slightly. Her choices are nice though and she looks great, so it’s useful information if you’re looking for decent products on a very restricted budget. It got me…

Face Of The Day: Go Drag or Go Home ;)

I’ve been on my own at home for a week now, and I don’t mind telling you, I’ve gone a little strange. Yesterday I decided to dig out some of my brightest eyeshadows and try out a big BIG eye look that would frighten me whenever I caught my reflection in  the mirror for the rest of the day Drag make-up doesn’t come naturally to me, even if I try to channel Annie Lennox while wielding my eyeshadow brush. I’m pretty sure the reason for this is that men’s facial features are, in general, pretty big. My facial features are undeniably pretty small (Eddie Izzard, how I envy you!) giving me a smaller space to fit in all those dramatic curves and highlights a proper show-off eye demands. Given an endless afternoon of nothing to do, I thought I’d give it a shot anyway I only “overdid” the eyes for…

Face of the Day: New hair day

Hi guys! Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet, I’ve been off having a cold and laying up in bed, started reading The Hunger Games and really enjoying it too. As frequently happens when I’m ill, and when I’m not ill to be honest, I’ve changed my hair colour! I wanted to go for something much lighter than I had, but that could be conceivably a natural human hair colour, not the ribena-berries shades that I’ve gone for lately. I lightened it with cream lightener then added two different brown colours to give it the shade I wanted. Oh so time consuming but worth it! I realise looking at these shots that I was a bit quick off the bat and should have taken the time to smooth down the post dye frizzies with some serum or Argan oil, so unfortunately this is the hair in its raw rough-dried form rather than the…

I usually update every day, so it seems like ages since I posted anything (it was Wednesday!). Despite the not-so-long absence I’m going to explain myself anyway. I’ve been working on future posts! Not blogging because I’m too busy blogging you see? I’m really excited about the upcoming guest post from my talented and beautiful friend Jo. I just finished working on the photos for it, I hope she doesn’t mind if I share this gorgeous out-take with you all We’ll be bringing you her make-up story in the next few weeks. Meanwhile, it’s grayscale so as to avoid any spoilers! Jo is an absolute joy to work with, I’m really looking forward to her post. Apart from that excitement… I went to Superdrug (thrills!) ahh, I love make up shopping. It will probably be my last shopping trip for a while as we’re planning on doing an Austerity Thing at Togetherness…

Not Quite 7 Day Nails

February 22, 2012

Well… I pledged to give my NYC Expert Last a chance to live up to it’s 7 Day claim… this is what happened 1. Saturday, applied carefully.. looked awesome 2. Sunday, a few tiny chips appeared at the corners of the ends of the nails. Subtle, not a dealbreaker 3. Monday, polish started to wear off the nail tips, bigger chips chipped off. Started looking a bit ropey really. 4. Tuesday, More than ropey looking, every nail chipped and worn looking, spent whole day wanting to sit on my hands. Tuesday evening: took the pictures for this post, whipped the polish off enthusiastically! I make that reasonably presentable nails from Saturday lunchtime to Monday lunchtime.. 48 hours. So… what went wrong? I love the colour of this polish and I really enjoyed wearing it before it started looking a bit tired. I know I could get a good couple more days…

Monday Mountain and Photo Fails

As the lovely Alex pointed out just after midday today – Monday Morning is officially over! How was it for you guys? Mine was… well, put it this way, I’m glad there’s only one every week. I had a mountain of work to plough through today, so I was totally stoked to get away for a few minutes at lunchtime and grab a couple of the much-hyped-on-this-very-blog Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation from Superdrug  before they go up to their regular price on Wednesday. Two bottles? That’s loads… I know. I tested the shades and I’m between the palest and the sample shade so I figured I could customise it with mixing both and make the most of it being only £5.99.  I tested it on my hand have spent the whole day making moon-eyes at my hand “oh so pretty, are you even my hand?” Ha ha It has to…

You win this round, Rimmel. Wake Me Up foundation review.

Don’t forget to enter the Clarins Blush Prodige Giveaway on Bee Loves Beauty between 17th and 23rd Feb! If I was going to criticise this blog (which I wouldn’t do because it’s not two months old yet, poor little thing) I’d say that perhaps the products I focus on are a little bit too expensive and high end, so perhaps a little bit too much of a leap of faith for the casual reader. So, when sample sachets of Rimmel’s new Wake Me Up Foundation appeared in this month’s magazines, I thought it was a good excuse to do a Face of The Day with more affordable products than I usually use. I’m SO glad I did this because I’m completely blown away by this foundation. You can read about it here on the Rimmel website and it is currently available for £3 off the normal price of £8.99 at both…
