Lush Colour Supplement Quick Sampler

April 8, 2012

Colour Supplements are new foundation-like products from Lush. When I dropped in to my local store the very stylish and helpful sales assistant potted up a little sample of my shade “light pink” to try out. You can see the product and its ingredient list on their website here. This is an interesting idea as it’s a skin tint made mostly from plant ingredients. For this shade, light pink, the actual colour of it comes from rose petals, which I find pretty cool. What I find uncool about it is that despite being natural in many ways, the preservatives are the notorious parabens, a nasty chemical found in many beauty products that I would prefer to avoid. I understand it appearing in cheap brands like MUA, but with Lush’s philosophy… it’s just disappointing. Anyway, I was told that the product could be used alone or added to moisturiser to make…

L’Oreal Lumi Magique Foundation Review

L’Oreal’s new foundation Lumi Magique is currently on pretty heavy rotation in the magazine and online advertising so I expect it is set to become a big seller.  I wanted to try it out so I could let you guys know what I think, so I sent off for a sample via the L’Oreal Lumi Magique Facebook App . It took a couple of weeks to arrive but the wait wasn’t too bad! It’s still online if you want to send off for a sample yourself. According to the L’Oreal Website, what I can expect from this foundation is as follows: With age skin can becomes dull and tired. Lumi Magique helps give instant skin radiance. You will be glowing inside and out. LOL! Sorry.. ok, I’m happy to glow on the outside, L’Oreal! Let’s start with that, ok? The sample arrives in an envelope like this: There’s a sachet of the…

Nails of the Now: MUA Shade 19

Since falling passionately in love with Maybelline Forever Strong Pro in 130 Rose Poudre recently, I’ve had a bit of a thing for nude nail polishes. I think it’s because I never really considered them before, like the boy next door with the floppy fringe who was always just there until one day: boom! I picked up this MUA polish Shade 19  yesterday because of its nudeness and the fact I would never have looked twice at it before! I applied it last night while I had a fierce grouch on and I’m impressed with the results for the price. It’s a really unusual colour, in certain lights it is almost mauve/grey but most of the time it’s a very pale latte brown. It’s perfectly opaque in two coats. I’m not sure about drying time as I slapdash-ed on some Sally Hansen Insta-Dri (which is rapidly going from zero to HERO in…

Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation Test Makeover

benefit 026

You know when someone else does your make up for you, and you look in the mirror and you’re like “That’s SO odd!” ..? That was basically me all yesterday. It’s not that the Benefit lady did it wrong, I just think that we all have areas we focus on and notice more about our own faces that other people don’t particularly see, while they notice different areas to highlight or conceal, so the made up face done by someone else has a different feel to it. I think this is the primary reason why it is so good to be able to take a sample of a product home and try it yourself. Even if you learn a new application technique, you’re not going to be able to perfectly replicate someone else’s interpretation of your face. So I visited the Benefit counter for my appointment to try Hello Flawless…

Nails of the Now: Misstique by Missguided

March 31, 2012

I went into town today – forgive the generalisation but EVERYONE had blue nail polish. Everyone!  Chanel have just launched three blue shades of Le Vernis and every beauty counter lady was rocking them.  Every other lady in town was rocking some form of blue nail, although possibly not all Chanel. They all looked pretty good though, blue nails are absolutely having a moment. Thanks to coincidence  my burgeoning psychic powers, I was also rocking blue nails today! Missguided nails in “Misstique”. I got this free with a magazine last year and never paid it much attention before. However, I really should have because it’s a stunning nail product. In the image above you can see how the lovely smooth finish and shine makes my real nails look like impossibly neat false nails. I’ve applied one-and-a-half coats of the blue polish and topped it over with a quick coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. I am…

In Praise of Bronze: L’Oreal Glam Bronze, your weekend awaits!

March 29, 2012

The sun has absolutely got his BEAMIN hat on today and it’s shaping up to be a gorgeous weekend, so I think it’s about time we talked about a bronzer. Way, way back in the mists of the forgotten season that is Winter, L’Oreal did a really good Gift With Purchase in Boots at Christmas. So good that I expect many of you got it too. Looking back I can scarcely believe how good it was. There was a full size gorgeous nude lipstick, a full size Contour Kohl eye pencil (which I have used almost daily since) and a full size Glam Bronze Trio in Blondes. There were some sample sachets and money off coupons in it too, all when you spent £15  which I needed to do anyway get in! I sampled it and swatched it and tried it not long after Christmas, which is when I took…

Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Foundation Review

March 28, 2012

clinique RW 001

Along with a few Clinique freebies, the latest issue of Cosmopolitan had a mention of foundation samples available at Clinique counters in Boots. I realise I’m probably getting a reputation for reviewing any foundation I can get my paws on by this point, but it’s fun so… why stop? When I went in to Boots the Clinique lady gave me a sachet sample of Shade 03 in the Repair Wear Laser Focus . I told her that I know Clinique shade 03 is too dark for me so she did me a little pot of the Shade 02 instead. I could see when she did it that this was also much too warm for me, however, I wasn’t buying anything and it was just for a try so we’ll see past the shade mismatch for the purposes of the review. Everybody in? Good, let’s try it! Above is Repairwear Laser Focus Foundation shade…

Body Shop Brow Kit – the hero returns?

March 22, 2012

brow 03

We have been to Crazy Brow Town on this blog before. I’m going to go out on a completely spurious limb here and assume we ALL love Crazy Brow Town and eyebrow make up as much as I do. Ahh… lovely minds in concert. So… back in the 90′s The Body Shop launched an eyebrow powder that was brilliant. In a tiny rectangular green case, it had a single pan of dense powder shadow and a cute stiff green brush which folded neatly in half to store inside the case. Never having used a brow powder before, I didn’t know how good I had it back then. Boy I Had It Good Back Then. Needless to say, The Body Shop don’t make the original brow powder anymore. It’s so out of date that you can’t even find a picture of it on Google Images anymore. Do you still own one of…

Lancôme Visionnaire Advanced Skin Corrector Review

March 18, 2012

Pictured above – 7ml sample size of Lancôme Visionnaire LR 2412 4% as provided for my consideration.   I’ve been a fan of serums for several years. Despite my relatively tender age of 31 I enjoy using serums as part of my skin care routine for two reasons. The first is what I think of as the Loveliness Factor, there’s the nice feeling of applying something lovely smelling that feels delightful to my freshly cleansed skin to do that little bit extra to look after and nourish it. Then there’s the Effectiveness Factor  or the “Hey! That really IS better!” effect.  Remember when there was a run on Boots No.7 Protect and Perfect serum because skin scientists had shown it genuinely was effective? This was no surprise to me as I’d been using it since it came out and it did make my skin better!  Sadly, I had a very bad…

Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation Review

March 17, 2012
By
DSC_0761

I’ve seen the… light Above image: Chanel Perfection Lumiere in 22 Beige Rose alone on moisturised skin.   As a beauty fan, I’ve thought quite a lot about all sorts of beauty things. One thing that has crossed my mind is Wedding Make Up. I’ve often thought it would be nice to have a make up artist to help prep the bride’s party for the ceremony and help everyone look their best. I’ve also thought, hmm.. but wouldn’t it be a bit disappointing if it was generic drugstore branded makeup? I mean, a make up artist could make you and your ladies look beautiful using any half decent make up brand because that is the artist’s skill. For the most special day in your much-photographed life though, I’d like to think there was a frisson of something extra about the products you’d wear as well as who would put them on.…
