Diorskin Nude BB Creme – BB of my dreams!

February 13, 2013

I honestly can’t believe how good this product is. Sometimes premium products are just drugstore products in expensive packaging. Diorskin Nude BB Creme is some kind of heavenly face ambrosia in make up form. I don’t know if BB Cream is really anything other than a light foundation, and when I’m wearing this free sample of Dior’s latest product, I honestly don’t care.   Look. At. My. Skin. Ok, this stuff is expensive at £30 for 30ml. I’m not suggesting you rush out and buy it without trying it. However, they are sampling it at Dior counters at the moment and I really recommend giving it a go. Dior foundation sample card The Dior Complexion – frankly I want it. Cute little 5-day sample bottle, I wish they were bigger! Like most BB Creams, this is a light foundation product. I’ve found that I like to use a bit more of…

Foundation Before and After: Max Factor Facefinity 3 in 1

Max Factor have a new foundation out.  You might have seen a few sachets kicking around in magazines or at Boots. I’ve got one I’ve got to admit, I didn’t expect to like this product much. I expected it to come out pinkish, and dry on my skin. I also didn’t expect much in the way of performing like a concealer. It’s £11.99 for the usual size, which is 30ml I think. This makes it less than half the price of a premium foundation, and around the same price as something by L’Oreal or Revlon.   I got three uses out of the sachet and, by the third use I was so impressed with it I decided you needed to see Shocking Before and After Images of the product at work. I’m going to warn you, my winter skin without makeup on was *not* looking good (this is what I get for…

Premium Pick: Clarins Instant Definition Mascara

December 10, 2012

It was quite a few months ago I was given a sample size of Clarins Instant Definition Mascara to try. Having a few mascaras already open, I left it sealed until I could justify opening a new one. Why did I wait? I’ve been missing out! Every now and then I’ll come over all “whuteverrr” about mascara, and then I’ll try a good one and it will blow my mind. Like Lancome Doll Eyes, sometimes when a product is good, it’s really good. Clarins Instant Definition Mascara is brilliant. It’s a combination of a really excellent, deep black bold formula which builds up in no time to make lashes longer and thicker and generally epic, and a unique brush. Lots of brushes have this idea, but this is the best execution of the idea I’ve seen. The short bristles at the end of the brush make it incredibly easy to capture even short…

Nails of the Now: More Magnificent Magnetics

November 28, 2012

Magnetic

I couldn’t resist another Barry M Magnetic Nail Paint. It was the hypno-toad style concentric circles that got me! The fact that Boots cosmetics are all on 3-for-2 again only helped to seal the deal! In the picture above, the index and middle fingers have the new shade “346 – Venus Sunset” which came with the circle design magnet. there were other bottles there of that shade without the circles magnet so I suspect someone had swapped  few lids around – check you have the right one in store! The ring and little fingers have “347 – Magnetic Multi Sparkle” which I reviewed earlier in this post. They’re both excellent – I don’t know which I like more. I took these pictures on a Tuesday after painting my nails on a Saturday, and as you can see there is some tip wear. Underneath my nail polish, my nails are a…

Nails of the Now: Barry M Gelly Nail Paints

November 2, 2012

I guess it’s no surprise that photographing a nail product designed for its shine in dim light is going to lead to noisy pictures but look, look at the shine on these nail babies! This shade, “Watermelon” is such a sophisticated dark green. It’s like a navy blue except it is green, it appears almost black in dim light and quite colourful in daylight. It is opaque in two coats and has a fresh, shiny finish that’s interesting but totally grown up looking. The “Gelly” nail paints are a limited edition collection from Barry M, £3.99 each and available in a range of colours from this dark colour to some really bright pinks and oranges. I’ve also picked up the “Blackberry” shade – Barry M is on 3-for-2 at Boots at the moment, and it’s also a super-shiny sophisticated nail colour, more blueberry than blackberry coloured in person. This shade needs…

Boots 17 and the Hologram Nail Varnish I’ve been waiting for!

October 17, 2012

tuesday 055

Long time no update, I know! I haven’t got a real excuse except after spending far too many weeks getting used to living in a new city, I’ve suddenly had a few events to go to and people to meet, and taking pictures of my fingernails hasn’t been the be-all-and-end-all of my life. No one was more surprised than me by this development! Social lives for bloggers, anyone? Even during times of intense busyness and enthusiastic wine consumption, some nail varnish is able to make itself heard, and this porduct absolutely falls into this category. I’ve been keen to try a holographic nail polish for a while, but they seem to be both scarce in the shops and have a reputation for lasting only a day or so on the nails, which is pretty off-putting for me. This new one from Boots 17 has just landed and is currently in plentiful supply,…

Body Shop Lily Cole Lip and Cheek Dome Review

October 2, 2012

dim sunday 051

I’m a fan of multi-use products and coral and bright pinks, so I was pretty excited to try these products when I got them in my Save Up goodie bag a couple of weeks ago. Like the Primer, these products are no longer available on the Body Shop site but you can pick them up on eBay for a few pounds. So…  these are a 10ml dome of cream blusher which can also be used as a lip colour. When you first open the product there’s a tiny layer of clear covering over the product, so when you first run it over your skin, there’s no colour at all. After a few swipes you get to the colour but it’s not tremendously pigmented. The pink is more pigmented than the coral, which I was a bit disappointed by as I love a coral blush! Above is the pink, swatched on to my…

Review: Body Shop Lily Cole Pearl Radiance Primer

September 27, 2012

dim sunday 033

This limited edition product is no longer available on the Body Shop website, but you can still pick it up on eBay for around £9 if you’re interested in picking it up. I was lucky enough to get this as a gift in my Save Up goodie bag. This probably has the most interesting texture of any primer I have used. A little demonstration on my hand, below… Above, initially squeezed onto hand it looks like a pearlised blob. It doesn’t look too promising at this point… Above, beginning to rub the product in, it is pink pearlised chunks suspended in a clear gel. This doesn’t look very cosmetic so far, I continue to rub it in… Above, hmm… after quite a bit more rubbing into my hand it is still pink chunks in a clear gel. This is starting to look like it isn’t going anywhere at all! However,…

Hairagami Review – it’s my Hair BFF

September 25, 2012

tumblr_m8ibho3Dyp1rbllico2_r1_400

In the spring, I had my hair cut into a bob.  It was a good hair cut, and for a few months I’ve worn my hair down. It can’t last though! If you know me and my hair, it’s a constant battle of wills! I think I mostly like the look of hair, but I do hate the hassle of having it. In an ideal world I’d shave my head. However, I have a suspiciously flat bit on the back of my head, and little tiny facial features, it wouldn’t work on me at my current age (although I’m looking forward to a Jo Brand-style crop when I’m mature enough to have the gravitas to carry it off). Since I have to have hair, I look for ways to make it be as little hassle to me as possible. Short hair always seems like it will be less hassle but,…

Glossybox September 2012 Review – Money Off Subscription Too!

September 20, 2012
By
glossybox 052

The possibilities! Hard to resist opening the box. When Savoo asked me to review September’s Glossybox and tell you all about their excellent subscription discounts I was thrilled. I’ve been really keen to try a beauty box but not sure which one to go with or whether they represent good value when you actually get them home, and here was an opportunity to find out, and let you guys know about it as well – superb! I really love beauty related surprises. To the point that I was happy to charge out of bed in my fluffy leopard print gown and pink slippers and race to grab it from the post man (sorry, postie!). I thought you might like to share some of my excitement with an unboxing (no dressing gowns, I promise) so, if you don’t want to know what’s in the September 2012 Glossybox, look away now as this is…
