Nails of the Now: Sally Hansen meets Models Own

When I’m feeling really festive, I love bright fuchsia. When I’m feeling really super, super festive, nothing will do but GOLD.  With this manicure I’ve combined the two to the maximum extent I can fit them on to my nails. Sally Hansen Insta Dri Magenta Motion (Poundland, £1) and Models Own Disco Inferno (Boots, £5) make a blazing, sparkling combination so bright, I feel like you could see my nails from space! The huge, irregular glitter pieces in the Models Own Disco Inferno are a bit of a pain to apply, because if they end up piled atop one another they’ll flake off easily. If you take your time applying, and add a top coat, this manicure lasts at least 4 days before looking ropey. These pictures were taken on Day 3 I think. Extreme Close Up! This glitter is not for the faint hearted, but for a night out…

Face Of The Day: Go Drag or Go Home ;)

I’ve been on my own at home for a week now, and I don’t mind telling you, I’ve gone a little strange. Yesterday I decided to dig out some of my brightest eyeshadows and try out a big BIG eye look that would frighten me whenever I caught my reflection in  the mirror for the rest of the day Drag make-up doesn’t come naturally to me, even if I try to channel Annie Lennox while wielding my eyeshadow brush. I’m pretty sure the reason for this is that men’s facial features are, in general, pretty big. My facial features are undeniably pretty small (Eddie Izzard, how I envy you!) giving me a smaller space to fit in all those dramatic curves and highlights a proper show-off eye demands. Given an endless afternoon of nothing to do, I thought I’d give it a shot anyway I only “overdid” the eyes for…

Nails of the Day: Pink and Perky

So many lovely new nail polishes, so few hands! On Thursday I wondered about trying a “thing”. I know that painting the ring fingernail a different colour is a “thing” but I thought I’d just go for the thumbnail instead… I’m not sure if I’ve pulled off the Eddie Izzard-described trick of  Looking like a dick > normal > cool > super cool > stratospherically cool > Looking like a dick.  Possibly! I quite like the colours together, the pale pink is Revlon 180 “Pink Again”  (Poundland £1!) and the bright pink is Nails Inc 041 “Walton Place” with a clear top coat over it. It’s available here but mine was a present from my friend Katie <3. Nail “thing” or nail “fail”, I quite liked it. I’m off to paint them again now. What’s your favourite nail trick?

Gosh, pink IS the new goth!

goth pink 062

Do you think pink is a gothy colour for eyes? As an ex- teenage officionado of all things black, velvet, lace and spooky, I know the feeling of getting my goth on in my very spooky bones. Whenever I see myself with pink eyeshadow and black eyeliner, I hear The Sisters of Mercy start up Temple of Love and catch a tantalising whiff of cider and blackcurrant… I’m frowning because of the darkness in my soul I accept that it’s not wildly gothy, it’s not classically gothy, but I guess it’s my interpretation of the velvet jacket and New Rock boots which still dress my soul, if not my body… I think I feel this way about pink as the classic goth eyeshadow shades of purple, lilac and perhaps dark blue, just don’t work on me. My eyes are too deep, shadowed and (coff) small to carry off the dramatically sexy…

New York Colour Expert Last Nail Polish Review

February 18, 2012

Remember to enter my giveaway to win a gorgeous Clarins Blush Prodige!   Yesterday lunchtime I was wondering what things to share with you this weekend, I was in Superdrug and I spotted that this nail varnish I’ve had my eye on for a while is now on offer at 2 for £2.99 (usually £2.49 each). After a stressful work week, my nail varnish resistance was at an all time low! I grabbed the deep pink “200 Rosy Knows” I’d been wanting and also the  nude shade “215 Late Night Latte”. Expert Last promises up to 7 days wear and up to 50% stronger nails. The deep pink shade “Rosy Knows” is a little darker than it appears in the first photo – more like in this darker image (above). Oddly my camera, which failed to find the pink tones in the Collection 2000 polish last week has struggled to…

Dithering for my Last Call

Dithering for my Last Call

So, this blog may be new, but you’ve probably figured out that little bits of snark aside I’m a huge fan of Urban Decay. One of my very favourite UD cosmetics is Last Call Eyeshadow. I’ve had it in at least two palettes and used it all up both times. It’s a brown/purple shimmery shade that is really versatile as it catches the light so differently depending on how you apply it and what you pair it with. Here on the left it’s applied heavily with a bright liner for an evening look, on the right it is applied lightly in the crease for a day look. There’s one problem with falling madly in love with a shade from a palette – when it’s all gone, what do you do? Do you buy another palette?Hmm… that’s like £25. For one Eye Shadow? Ahh, but you get 10 shades! Oh, but I only…

Nails of the day: Never Say Die Fuchsia

It’s been a brilliant festive holiday with today the last day before returning to work tomorrow. I needed to paint my nails a work friendly shade which is in keeping with my HOLIDAYS FOREVER, NEVER GO TO WORK AGAIN mood!  I reached for my New York Colour “In a New York Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish” in 268 Fashion Ave Fuchsia (£1.79 at Superdrug). I was taking photos of it to show you when I remembered what happened last time I did some nail pics, which resulted in this little gem of an image from my friend and fellow blogger Daisy . Face of the Day: Workday Pinks

A couple of weeks ago I was getting ready for work and got really overexcited with my makeup (yes, admit it – this has happened to you!) After getting ready I ended up taking a tonne of Face Of The Day photos because I was so delighted with my new foundation. This stuff is amazing – and I’ll dedicate a full post to it soon. So… this is a normal work day look for me Click read more to see the products I’ve used and probably far too many pictures…

Face of the Day: Eyebrow Redux

Hey guys After a few slightly unusual beauty blog entries, I thought I’d bring you some more standard beauty blog fare in the form of a Face of the Day (FOTD) post. These are usually bloggers showing a makeup look they’re wearing and the products used to create it. These pictures were taken a little while ago and (hopefully) show that the Cosmopolitan Brow Styling kit can be used for good as well as evil! I’ll be using these things: And creating my normal autumn face, got to start somewhere, right?
