Diorskin Nude BB Creme – BB of my dreams!

February 13, 2013

I honestly can’t believe how good this product is. Sometimes premium products are just drugstore products in expensive packaging. Diorskin Nude BB Creme is some kind of heavenly face ambrosia in make up form. I don’t know if BB Cream is really anything other than a light foundation, and when I’m wearing this free sample of Dior’s latest product, I honestly don’t care.   Look. At. My. Skin. Ok, this stuff is expensive at £30 for 30ml. I’m not suggesting you rush out and buy it without trying it. However, they are sampling it at Dior counters at the moment and I really recommend giving it a go. Dior foundation sample card The Dior Complexion – frankly I want it. Cute little 5-day sample bottle, I wish they were bigger! Like most BB Creams, this is a light foundation product. I’ve found that I like to use a bit more of…

Quick Sampler: Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation

In this image (above) I’m wearing Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation in Shade 2 On Monday I popped into Debenhams to pick up a sample of YSL’s Touche Elcat Foundation. They’re sampling again and I thought I’d get a match for my winter skin shade to try out. While I was waiting for the YSL lady to appear I was drawn to the Urban Decay counter and couldn’t resist asking to try the Naked Skin foundation. The lovely sales assistant applied it quickly and efficiently with a brush and -wow- I love this make up! It is a perfect match for my skin and looks incredibly natural. Just like skin! Thanks to the scarcity of daylight, it’s really hard to photograph how much like skin it really looks. Trust me, it’s one of those where you see yourself in the mirror and go “Ooh! Good skin day!” It took me…

Foundation Before and After: Max Factor Facefinity 3 in 1

Max Factor have a new foundation out.  You might have seen a few sachets kicking around in magazines or at Boots. I’ve got one I’ve got to admit, I didn’t expect to like this product much. I expected it to come out pinkish, and dry on my skin. I also didn’t expect much in the way of performing like a concealer. It’s £11.99 for the usual size, which is 30ml I think. This makes it less than half the price of a premium foundation, and around the same price as something by L’Oreal or Revlon.   I got three uses out of the sachet and, by the third use I was so impressed with it I decided you needed to see Shocking Before and After Images of the product at work. I’m going to warn you, my winter skin without makeup on was *not* looking good (this is what I get for…

Premium Pick: Clarins Instant Definition Mascara

December 10, 2012

It was quite a few months ago I was given a sample size of Clarins Instant Definition Mascara to try. Having a few mascaras already open, I left it sealed until I could justify opening a new one. Why did I wait? I’ve been missing out! Every now and then I’ll come over all “whuteverrr” about mascara, and then I’ll try a good one and it will blow my mind. Like Lancome Doll Eyes, sometimes when a product is good, it’s really good. Clarins Instant Definition Mascara is brilliant. It’s a combination of a really excellent, deep black bold formula which builds up in no time to make lashes longer and thicker and generally epic, and a unique brush. Lots of brushes have this idea, but this is the best execution of the idea I’ve seen. The short bristles at the end of the brush make it incredibly easy to capture even short…

Nails of the Now: Sally Hansen meets Models Own

December 2, 2012

models2 016

When I’m feeling really festive, I love bright fuchsia. When I’m feeling really super, super festive, nothing will do but GOLD.  With this manicure I’ve combined the two to the maximum extent I can fit them on to my nails. Sally Hansen Insta Dri Magenta Motion (Poundland, £1) and Models Own Disco Inferno (Boots, £5) make a blazing, sparkling combination so bright, I feel like you could see my nails from space! The huge, irregular glitter pieces in the Models Own Disco Inferno are a bit of a pain to apply, because if they end up piled atop one another they’ll flake off easily. If you take your time applying, and add a top coat, this manicure lasts at least 4 days before looking ropey. These pictures were taken on Day 3 I think. Extreme Close Up! This glitter is not for the faint hearted, but for a night out…

Nails of the Now: More Magnificent Magnetics

November 28, 2012

Magnetic

I couldn’t resist another Barry M Magnetic Nail Paint. It was the hypno-toad style concentric circles that got me! The fact that Boots cosmetics are all on 3-for-2 again only helped to seal the deal! In the picture above, the index and middle fingers have the new shade “346 – Venus Sunset” which came with the circle design magnet. there were other bottles there of that shade without the circles magnet so I suspect someone had swapped  few lids around – check you have the right one in store! The ring and little fingers have “347 – Magnetic Multi Sparkle” which I reviewed earlier in this post. They’re both excellent – I don’t know which I like more. I took these pictures on a Tuesday after painting my nails on a Saturday, and as you can see there is some tip wear. Underneath my nail polish, my nails are a…

Poundland Pick: Sally Hansen Real Nail Polish Strips

November 15, 2012

sticky nails 024

I picked up four of these fascinating little kits in Poundland last week. Each contains 16 strips of stick-on nail varnish, a nail buffer/file a cuticle stick and a set of clear instructions how to use them. I bought this geometric black and white set and the three below: Super value for a pound each! Do check the packets if you pick up some of these though. My black glittery nail polish strips had half of the strips missing, each pack has two sealed trays of 8 strips each, except that one, which has only one! Grr! 8 strips isn’t enough to do two hands. These graphic designs do look like false nails or stickers, because obviously, this detail of nail-art is difficult with real liquid polish. The other strips I’ve tried look a lot more like nail polish and the chief benefit of them is that they need no…

Nails of the Now: Barry M Gelly Nail Paints

November 2, 2012

I guess it’s no surprise that photographing a nail product designed for its shine in dim light is going to lead to noisy pictures but look, look at the shine on these nail babies! This shade, “Watermelon” is such a sophisticated dark green. It’s like a navy blue except it is green, it appears almost black in dim light and quite colourful in daylight. It is opaque in two coats and has a fresh, shiny finish that’s interesting but totally grown up looking. The “Gelly” nail paints are a limited edition collection from Barry M, £3.99 each and available in a range of colours from this dark colour to some really bright pinks and oranges. I’ve also picked up the “Blackberry” shade – Barry M is on 3-for-2 at Boots at the moment, and it’s also a super-shiny sophisticated nail colour, more blueberry than blackberry coloured in person. This shade needs…

Nails of the Now: Barry M Magnetic Nail Paint 347 Review

October 31, 2012

stripey 391

Gimmicky nail polishes are everywhere and, despite having low resistance to the charms of nail products I like to think that I can be rational about nail fads and fashions. I even resisted buying magnetic nail polishes until last weekend (go me! weeks of resist-power, ha!) but I’m here to tell you, this gimmick is the best nail gimmick EVER. I am amazed by this effect which looks great in pictures but much more interesting in person. The stripes have incredible depth and shine, seem to subtly move like a hologram, and in this shade the multicoloured glitter shines like some kind of fairy enchantment. This  nail product is £4.99 of magic.  Above – in indoor light you can see some of the multicoloured sparkles, they’re really bright in person. This nail paint applies as a dark gunmetal grey with rainbow sparkles. You apply one coat as a base and let it…

A Study in Purple: Eyebrows

October 23, 2012

As a beauty enthusiast, finding a new place to colour in is always pretty great. Discovering that colour can go on lips, nails, eyelids, cheeks, lashes, skin, lashline, waterline, browbone, highlight, has all been accompanied with the fun of discovery and trial and error. It was with great excitement I discovered that yes – there is yet another thing I can colour in! Not limited to the shades of nature, eyebrows can also rock exciting colour! I can’t believe I haven’t tried this before This little task is yet another job for the brilliant Collection 2000 Extreme Waterproof Eyeliner Pen which is already one of my favourite eye products. I applied it as I would a pencil, smudging a little with a cotton bud to blend any lines in. My first experiment with it, I went for using the purple on both eyeliner and eyebrow as follows:  Too Purple But I…
