The Problem With Pink – Growing Out White Hair For Beginners

It’s time for adventures with hair dye again! I’ve changed my hair colour from black to back-with-red-stripes and it’s made me much happier with it.   From my personal journal… I’ve been trying trying trying to deal with my all-white hair roots for weeks. Backstory: I started going white at 16 and now very nearly all of my hair is white. It is dyed black. I’ve got just over an inch of white roots. I’ve read about PPD in hair colour causing anaphylaxis even after years of successful use. I know my “quirky” brushes with allergic death quite well and the chance of something like that happening to me is definitely higher than for an average person. Especially considering the fact that I dye so regularly and use dark permanent dyes. I can’t help thinking it is probably a matter of time before something happens. So I figured, no time…

New Hair – Boots Permanent Hair Colour Ebony Black

black hair 051

Hi everyone! I just can’t resist changing my hair colour every few weeks – as you’ve probably noticed if you’ve been following for a while. One of my very favourite hair colours is black, but it’s a bit of a commitment, because unlike reddish browns, light browns, orangey reds, etc, it’s not possible to dye over, and needs to be multi-bleached to remove or fade. Despite this, it had been way too long since I was last black  haired, and I decided I’m happy to commit to it for a few months, what do you think? I used Boots Permanent Hair Colour in Ebony black. I’ve never used this before. Usually if I want a reliable, strong hair colour, I go for Superdrug’s own brand. I love Superdrug hair colours, they’ve got a great range of shades and they leave the hair feeling and looking lovely. They’re around £3.99 but…

Why my beauty routine is important to me…

Picture a woman. She is tall, in her early thirties, and somewhat overweight. Look closely… She has hair that is almost entirely grey and white, it is thick and wavy, and very frizzy. The roots of her hair are clumped with dandruff and her scalp is sore and it itches. She has a cold sore and her lips are chapped and dry Her eyes, behind glasses for short sight, look piggy and small. She has buck teeth, which are stained yellow, and her breath is bad. Her nose and eyes stream constantly from dust allergies and allergic rhinitis. She sneezes powerfully, up to fifty times every day. Her body is covered almost everywhere with fine, dark hairs. She has allergic skin rashes and eczema, worst at knees and elbows where it scabs and weeps. She has callused feet, and a verucca seemingly burrowing into her bones. Her…

Face of the Day: New hair day

Hi guys! Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet, I’ve been off having a cold and laying up in bed, started reading The Hunger Games and really enjoying it too. As frequently happens when I’m ill, and when I’m not ill to be honest, I’ve changed my hair colour! I wanted to go for something much lighter than I had, but that could be conceivably a natural human hair colour, not the ribena-berries shades that I’ve gone for lately. I lightened it with cream lightener then added two different brown colours to give it the shade I wanted. Oh so time consuming but worth it! I realise looking at these shots that I was a bit quick off the bat and should have taken the time to smooth down the post dye frizzies with some serum or Argan oil, so unfortunately this is the hair in its raw rough-dried form rather than the…

If I only wrote one thing in this blog, it would be this:

Everyone can do all beauty things! You own your looks, they don’t own you.   I’ve been wondering what it is that has kept me blogging almost daily for the three-and-a-bit months that I have been at this and today I realised, it’s probably this. I got asked if I was over 18 while buying a pedicure knife today (thanks ma’am!) and it got me thinking, it probably is wise that we are old enough to vote before we are allowed to purchase for ourselves the means to cut off offensive parts of our feet, right? Then I got to thinking how nice my feet are, and how bad they are when not properly pedicured, and I realised, my happiness with my feet stems from my willingness and confidence to cut parts of them off. I have been born with feet that have a tendency to become torturous and unattractive,…

Beauty’s Most Wanted

No proper post tonight because Superdrug have a promotion on the Live XXL colourants at better than half price £2.69 so I can afford to attempt to dye myself purple ahead of the party this weekend! Whee! See the offer here (not affiliated, just pleased)   For a really great beauty post, please head over to Robyn’s blog for her EYELINER TUTORIAL with video and step by step bullet points! From the comments I see around, Eyeliner tutorials are probably the most wanted thing in beauty blogging, so I know a few of you will definitely want to check it out.   Since I get a few hits searching for it, I thought I’d share these pictures of the Outdoor Girl Crackle Polish I picked up at Poundland a few weeks ago… This is over the top of the Barry M Nail Paint 309 “Strawberry Ice Cream” with a top coat…

ColourB4 Extra Strength Colour Remover Review

This image is from www.colourb4.com   In the past few days my hair has gone from long, brown and boring to short, red and different-y. Although I’m a bit of a hairdo chameleon, this change is so dramatic I do keep surprisingly myself when I look in the mirror! I’m not sure what exactly prompted me to do it. I was bored of my long hair and the change of season gets under my skin. I had had a glorious haircut from my best-ever hairdresser Chloe at True Colours in Exeter (seriously, if you are in travelling distance from her – GO THERE it’s right by the station and she is amazing) about 6 months ago but it had grown out and I was feeling like I wanted to recapture that good hair feeling. I am blessed with fast growing, strong thick hair. To compensate for natures’ bounty in this, I’ve…

What Would Bee Buy? 2011 Part 2

December 21, 2011
By

Here’s WWBB part 2, all my favourite things in hair care…   Haircare Shampoo:I’m going to be completely unconventional and nominate a strong smelling medicated shampoo as my essential pick for hair cleansing. Alphosyl 2in1 Shampoo  doesn’t have a lot of boudoir glamour, it’s true. What it does have is incredible power to clean hair and soothe irritated scalp. It’s the cleaning I like best. My hair is very thick and I really hate product build up on it. Using this shampoo once a week keeps it super clean and shiny and smelling herbal. An acquired taste but I’ve used this for…uhh.. 15 years and love it as much today as I did the first go. Price varies between £4 and £8 (urk) for 250ml depending where you buy it. Conditioner: My hair’s conditioning need varies depending whether it’s lightened or not, but for everyday conditioning and a really reasonable…
