New Clinique Products: Even Better Eyes

September 22, 2012

Image source A couple of weeks ago I went into Boots in Oxford for a “Brighter Eyes” consultation with the lovely Kerry. I’d been really keen to try the new “Even Better Eyes” treatment. As you know from my endlessly going on about it, my under-eye dark circles are my  main beauty bugbear. I could really live without them! When I first read about Even Better Eyes I was intruigued. It’s designed to lighten the colour of the dark areas over time, as well as visually hiding them from first use. It’s a totally different kind of product from Clinique’s “All About Eyes” which I have tried several times but just can’t get to sink in somehow. Even Better Eyes also comes in a nice tube with a cooling metal applicator which helps it feel cooling and de-puffing. I booked in for my mini-eye makeover. Kerry did a great job…

A Stopped Clock Is Right Twice A Day

company 015

Hey guys! Company magazine is a fashion magazine aimed at …hmm… young, fash-happy females? Younger than, say, me! This month it’s even youthier since this issue has been put together by fashion graduates rather than Company’s regular perky young staff. But I love a fashion magazine and this month it’s just £1 so I picked up a copy.   Look at the things that are in fashion at the moment Wolves? Haunted houses? Dancing in circles? Wait… what does that word in the centre say??? It says Goth! Goth is in, ladies! Cast off the pink floral dresses of opression! Fetch the fur and velvet! Cheap knock-off designer gothness making it’s way to high street fashion stores right now! Be still my blackened, undead heart! Also… Baroque! Baroque is in! Velvet as far as the eye can see, baby! Embellish everything!   It’s also lovely to see this in a mainstream…

Irresistible New Range of Eyeliners from Boots 17 – Buy One Get One Half Price

There’s probably not much I love more in my make-up bag than a great, reliable black liquid eyeliner. Of all my cosmetics, I think black eyeliners get used up fastest so I  suppose I shop for them more often than any other thing. Imagine my delight when I spotted that Boots 17 have brought out a whole new range of black eyeliners! Not one eyeliner in several colours, oh no, a suite of black liquid or gel liners, in different formulations for different lining needs. I WANT THEM ALL!! Lucky for me and my wallet, they’re all priced between £3.99 and £4.99 and they’re part of a Buy One Get One Half Price offer on 17 cosmetics at the moment. I wasn’t sure if I was being impulsive or restrained, but I bought two! I might go back for the others… Above – 17 Lacquer Liner, Wet Look Finish Aaargh!…

Face of the Day: Autumn Photography Fail

September 6, 2012

Hai! In a different season, this would be a proper photo of my face *Sigh* It’s happened, with the sun rising at about 6.30am now, it’s still coming in at a sidelong angle by the time I’m ready for work and taking Face of the Day shots. I may have to give up on them or save them for non-office days! I call this my “LIGHT BEARD” I took these pictures to share with you one of my favourite eye make up looks to go with my black hair. Thanks to the lighting, well, you can barely see it in these pictures but, it’s subtle. The subtleness… it’s hardly seeable, you see? Dim, shadowy… drat local weather conditions! This was going to be cool but I just look tired. For this make-up look I used YSL Touche Eclat Foundation, and Benefit It Stick Concealer. For the eye make up I…

MUA Offer!

August 22, 2012

OFFER

Hey guys, I’ve just seen this on the MUA site, they have £1 off two of their best palettes (making them £3 each!) and their gel eyeliner and Every Lash mascara (making them just £2 each) until 28th August. I’m very tempted to cave and purchase the Undressed palette, which is  a shade-for-shade dupe of the Urban Decay Naked palette. I’ve liked the look of Naked and Naked2 but I prefer to spend money on brighter colours and the UD Nakeds seem expensive to me for subtle shades, just £3 for incredibly similar shades is an amazing deal though! Gel eyeliners are excellent products, part way between a pencil and a liquid liner. At £2 each, if you’ve been wanting to try one, this is a brilliant price. This post isn’t sponsored or affiliated, I just like MUA and wanted to give you the heads up! Do you own any…

Face of the Day: Glory Palette and YSL Touche Éclat Foundation

I love the eyeshadows in the Sleek MakeUP Glory Palette so much I might do a post with each shade (eventually!). This one is about the green shade “District” in action. It’s such a strong, lovely green colour. So easy to apply, buttery and pigmented, stays where it is put without noticeable fallout. Excellent stuff! I really love this eyeshadow. Even to the slightly mad extent of pairing it with red lipstick! What do you think – red and green? Just call me Mrs. Santa Claus I guess! I was trying to find a new facial expression (above) I’m not sure I pulled it off… As well as bright green eyeshadow, and bright red lip gloss, I’m also wearing the Touche Eclat Foundation that I reviewed a few days ago. This product is really growing on me as the colour is so lovely. It’s a characteristic of expensive foundations like the Chanel…

Land of Sleek and Glory: Sleek Glory Palette Review

July 18, 2012

I am absolutely thrilled with my purchase of the Sleek MakeUP 2012 Collection Glory I-Divine palette. It’s one of those times when I thought it was going to be good, but it was actually brilliant. Love when that happens It comes in a Britannia-themed box which I really like. The box shows medals in shades similar to those featured inside but doesn’t give much away about the brights concealed within. The back of the box – the ingredients are listed. They are mineral eyeshadows and they contain minerals, pigments and preservatives. Out of the box, the Sleek palette is the shape and size of the usual I-Divine palettes but it is a special edition so the design is slightly different. I love a special edition, I’ll admit it. I love tie-ins with the Olympics, the Jubilee, the Tour de France, whatever! Why? Well, I think it’s especially this year. As…

Palette Lust – Sleek MakeUP 2012 Glory Palette

There are millions of palettes out there, the best known lately are probably the Urban Decay Naked and Naked 2 palettes, but there really are loads now and I’ll admit it’s possible to experience a palette overdose, palette weariness, palette I’m-So-Over-It-itis. I would have thought I had a case of that myself, but then I saw the Sleek Glory Palette featured on Dolce Vanity.   Image source Look at the colours! The colours! I love every one! There are even better pictures and swatches on the Dolce Vanity post so I really recommend having a look there. That’s an AMAZING red, an INCREDIBLE yellow, fantastic blues and pink. I’d use every scrap of them and the pale neutrals are exactly the ones I use most in other palettes, all together in one. This is a Limited Edition tie-in with the Olympics and well, I don’t know about you guys but…

Face Of The Day: Go Drag or Go Home ;)

June 17, 2012

DSC_0753

I’ve been on my own at home for a week now, and I don’t mind telling you, I’ve gone a little strange. Yesterday I decided to dig out some of my brightest eyeshadows and try out a big BIG eye look that would frighten me whenever I caught my reflection in  the mirror for the rest of the day Drag make-up doesn’t come naturally to me, even if I try to channel Annie Lennox while wielding my eyeshadow brush. I’m pretty sure the reason for this is that men’s facial features are, in general, pretty big. My facial features are undeniably pretty small (Eddie Izzard, how I envy you!) giving me a smaller space to fit in all those dramatic curves and highlights a proper show-off eye demands. Given an endless afternoon of nothing to do, I thought I’d give it a shot anyway I only “overdid” the eyes for…

Guest Post: Pink Eyeshadow Review For Goths!

June 16, 2012

2012-05-13 14.09.04

I’m delighted to bring you another guest post from my beloved friend Lana, who has previously written about Gosh Nail Lacquer in Purple Heart on this blog. I hope you enjoy it! I’ll be back with more posts soon xxx Pink, the colour usually sneered upon as a fluffy girly colour that is not to be put any where near the personal bubble of any respectable goth anywhere let alone on one’s face. Or, so we are led to believe and this is the way I’ve always viewed the colour pink, short of hot cerise pink I have hated it and scorned it and banished it from my wardrobe, it’s the colour that I attribute to my sister and my soul is too dark and broody for it, or so I thought. So, when Bee suggested that pink was the new goth I was dubious, but knowing how ‘well goff’ she actually is I was…
