Nails of the Now: More Magnificent Magnetics

Magnetic

I couldn’t resist another Barry M Magnetic Nail Paint. It was the hypno-toad style concentric circles that got me! The fact that Boots cosmetics are all on 3-for-2 again only helped to seal the deal! In the picture above, the index and middle fingers have the new shade “346 – Venus Sunset” which came with the circle design magnet. there were other bottles there of that shade without the circles magnet so I suspect someone had swapped  few lids around – check you have the right one in store! The ring and little fingers have “347 – Magnetic Multi Sparkle” which I reviewed earlier in this post. They’re both excellent – I don’t know which I like more. I took these pictures on a Tuesday after painting my nails on a Saturday, and as you can see there is some tip wear. Underneath my nail polish, my nails are a…

Nails of the Now: Barry M Gelly Nail Paints

I guess it’s no surprise that photographing a nail product designed for its shine in dim light is going to lead to noisy pictures but look, look at the shine on these nail babies! This shade, “Watermelon” is such a sophisticated dark green. It’s like a navy blue except it is green, it appears almost black in dim light and quite colourful in daylight. It is opaque in two coats and has a fresh, shiny finish that’s interesting but totally grown up looking. The “Gelly” nail paints are a limited edition collection from Barry M, £3.99 each and available in a range of colours from this dark colour to some really bright pinks and oranges. I’ve also picked up the “Blackberry” shade – Barry M is on 3-for-2 at Boots at the moment, and it’s also a super-shiny sophisticated nail colour, more blueberry than blackberry coloured in person. This shade needs…

Nails of the Now: Barry M Magnetic Nail Paint 347 Review

Gimmicky nail polishes are everywhere and, despite having low resistance to the charms of nail products I like to think that I can be rational about nail fads and fashions. I even resisted buying magnetic nail polishes until last weekend (go me! weeks of resist-power, ha!) but I’m here to tell you, this gimmick is the best nail gimmick EVER. I am amazed by this effect which looks great in pictures but much more interesting in person. The stripes have incredible depth and shine, seem to subtly move like a hologram, and in this shade the multicoloured glitter shines like some kind of fairy enchantment. This  nail product is £4.99 of magic.  Above – in indoor light you can see some of the multicoloured sparkles, they’re really bright in person. This nail paint applies as a dark gunmetal grey with rainbow sparkles. You apply one coat as a base and let it…

Nails of the Now: Primrose and Taupe

I’ve been thinking about this colour combination for my nails for a while now, though I didn’t have the nail colours in my collection to make it happen.  When I saw the Leighton Denny nail polish free with Harpers Bazaar magazine I grabbed it. I haven’t used Leighton Denny products before, and this shade “Supermodel” is the taupe that has been missing from my set of “nude-ish” shades I’ve been collecting this season. Forgive the slightly arty look of these shots, it was very lovely high-contrast morning light when I took these I like these shades together. The bright yellow is not quite neon so it’s a more wearable take on the “neons and nudes” trend that really caught my eye earlier in the season. I really love the quality of the Leighton Denny polish, it’s easy to apply with a professional finish. The Barry M yellow ” NP 307…

Nails of the Now: Barry M Chameleon

Imagine a pretty nail polish, bright, opaque, almost matte, metallic, lovely… See it sparkle, sheen and shimmer in the light… “This is jolly lovely nail polish”, you might think to yourself, really wonderful for £3.99, what clever folk these Barry M people are! Then you might think to youself, “perhaps I’ll add a clear top coat to this lovely polish, that might look nice…” WHAT’S HAPPENING HERE??? It’s true, guys! Adding a clear top coat to this polish (in spots, above, or however you like) turns the polish from a metallic blue to a sheer shiny purple. Dead amaze! How cool is that? The transformation happens quickly and the colours are nicely different to each other but they go together. I’ve tried a few things here (above) as you can see, I need a steadier hand and a bit more practice, but this look has so much potential. A skinny…

Nails of the Now: Barry M Retro Nail Paint

I was wandering around my local Superdrug on Thursday and I spied this little freebie upon the Barry M stand. Retro Nail Paint in “Retro 2 Blue”. These “Retro” products have been released to celebrate Barry M’s 30 years of making cosmetics, and you can get one free with any £6 spend or buy them individually for £2.99 each. In the store I visited there were two other  colour options, a red and a fuchsia  pink, both with that superb metallic-finish-car-paint shimmer deep within like this blue. I always forget what a reasonably priced range Barry M products are because the quality is so good.  Although the shape of the bottle differs from the standard Barry M nail paints, the quality is the same as the best of the other shades like Racing Green and Black. The bottle recommends using a base coat with this polish and I’ve done so,…

Barry M Nail Paint – Heroically dark

If you want a black nail varnish (and it seems I often do) you can’t go wrong with Barry M Nail Paint in NP47 Black. It’s fast drying, long lasting and resists chipping and flaking, it’s all round heroic. One of the stand-out characteristics of this varnish is the incredible  shine of its finish. If you look at the picture above you can see that it reflects the view through the window so clearly that you can make out the hillside, the sky and the clouds in each nail – shiny. nail If you’re looking for a black nail varnish you need look no further (and pay no more) than Barry M Nail Paint, which is £2.99 from Boots or Superdrug.

Boyfriend, looking at my nails: “That is British Racing Green” Me: “I know that because it says it on the bottom of the bottle!” Boyfriend: -looks at me sideways- Me: “Does it really look like British Racing Green?” ~Those of you who know me will know I’d barely recognise a CAR let alone a specific colour of one~ Boyfriend: “I think so, well, sometimes the metallic finish is extra” Me: -Silly grin of expensive car finish nails-   Teehee, my boyfriend makes me goofy I bought this Barry M Nail Paint shade 299 in Racing Green after seeing and admiring it on several blogs. It’s £2.99 in Superdrug and I completely love it. I have only ever had a couple of Barry M polishes but this one is making me wonder why I don’t have lots, lots more. Extreme pinkie nail close up It’s a deep, ever so slightly bluish…
