Washing and Drying Make Up Brushes

I’m definitely not an expert in taking care of my brushes, but I do wash them! Brush laundry is kind of a chore, but I hate the idea of face bacteria and old make up together mulching away on the used brushes for weeks – ick. I try to do them on a Sunday if I get round to it. This isn’t a tutorial but this is how I wash mine. If any of these steps are super stupid, tell me!   1. Sink full of tepid or slightly warm water, swish brush part of the brush in the water, trying not to immerse the ferrule (bristle holder) or handle too much 2. Gently soap up the bristles with gentle handwash or shampoo 3. Swish in water to rinse 4. Then rinse in running water to get the swish water off. Rinse a lot. Rinsing is key to washing. 5.…

Step by Step: Experimenting with MUA Immaculate Collection

So when my palette arrived yesterday, I had to try it out immediately. I used it with the MUA Professional Eye Primer I also bought and I was really impressed. For this look I’ve used all the blue and greeny shades in the palette, with the dark green/black (third on bottom row) for emphasis.     I’ve taken step by step images of each stage of applying the eye shadow. I was experimenting so there’s not too much logic to it, see what you think…   1. Turquoise base shade over entire lid   2. Greenish blending shade above crease, silvery highlighter up to  brow 3. Green/black shadow to add contour 4.  Stronger blue on centre of lids   5. Extra highlighting and shading 6. Eyeliner (Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Liner) 7. Finished!   With these freebies, you are really spoiling us! Here’s this eye make up as part…

Simple Eye Makeup Step by Step 3: Bold Mess Eyes

Is there an episode of The Simpsons where Homer is eating the chocolate flavour out of a tub of Neopolitan ice cream, finishes it and yells “MARGE! We’re outta ice cream!” and throws the vanilla and strawberry portions away? Well.. it was something like that anyway The reason I ask is because this is analogous to my relationship with the green eye shadows in Urban Decay palettes, for, oh, my entire twenties. And the reason for that is the way I’ve done my make up for absolutely years involves a lot of green eye shadow. Tonnes. A whole big mess of it. I started this step-by-step series because my friends kept asking me how I did my eye make up. This particular way is how I have done my  eye make up for most of my make up wearing life, so it would seem dishonest not to include it. However, it’s not sophisticated,…

Hi guys! It’s the weekend again and I’m in quite a celebratory mood. I’ve decided to be brave and bring you the second installment in my step-by-step eye make up series. If you read my previous post on this subject “Colour pop” you’ll know that these posts aren’t tutorials, they’re just about how I put on my eye make up. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to apply eye make up, but my readers have asked me to explain how I do it. I haven’t got great eyes for eye make up, them being quite small and deep set. I just do what I like them to look like. If you’d like to try this, feel free! This time I’m going to go through the steps I use for a simple contoured look. This is where I shade certain areas with a darker colour (generally the crease)…

The question I’m most frequently asked in relation to this blog is “Can you post some instructions on how to do eye make up?” . I’m generally completely surprised when anyone asks me this as I don’t consider myself to be an expert, or any good at applying eye make up or any other kind of make up – it’s just something I do. I want to make it really clear from the beginning that this is not a tutorial in the traditional sense – I’m not going to explain the right way to apply eye make up. There are as many right ways to apply cosmetics as there are occasions that eye make up is applied and I’m really not an expert. I’ve never had any training, I’ve never had any advice and I’ve rarely had many compliments. In fact, this may well turn out to be the wrong way…
