Face of the Day: New Clarins Foundation Skin Illusion

November 1, 2012

It’s not a full review as I’ve only tried a sample sachet but I must confess I am super excited about the new Clarins foundation “Skin Illusion”. It’s a light reflecting foundation with mineral and plant extracts and it’s so lovely to use, it’s definitely one for my foundation wish-list.  In the photo above I’m wearing the Skin Illusion Foundation in shade 109 “Wheat” with no concealer or powder. Such great coverage but it feels really light and lasts really well. Props Clarins, this is foundation-love-at-first-sight. I’m also wearing eyeshadows from the brilliant MUA Undressed Palette (£4). It’s the one that is the clone or “dupe” of the Urban Decay Naked palette and they’ve done a superb job. The colours are so wearable, blendable and the pigmentation is great. I don’t have the Naked palettes but I have several Urban Decay palettes and the quality of UD eyeshadows is obviously…

A Study in Purple: Eyebrows

October 23, 2012

As a beauty enthusiast, finding a new place to colour in is always pretty great. Discovering that colour can go on lips, nails, eyelids, cheeks, lashes, skin, lashline, waterline, browbone, highlight, has all been accompanied with the fun of discovery and trial and error. It was with great excitement I discovered that yes – there is yet another thing I can colour in! Not limited to the shades of nature, eyebrows can also rock exciting colour! I can’t believe I haven’t tried this before This little task is yet another job for the brilliant Collection 2000 Extreme Waterproof Eyeliner Pen which is already one of my favourite eye products. I applied it as I would a pencil, smudging a little with a cotton bud to blend any lines in. My first experiment with it, I went for using the purple on both eyeliner and eyebrow as follows:  Too Purple But I…

Face Of The Day: How Much Is That Blogger In The Window?

how much 030

Hello everyone! The title of this post could have been more accurately “How Much Is The Combined Value Of All The Cosmetic Products On The Face Of This Bloger If She Were To Repurchase Them All Today?” but obviously, that wouldn’t fit! I’ve been watching the brilliant, inspiring videos by make-up artist duo Pixiwoo. If you haven’t seen any of their videos, I urge you to click and watch a few. They’re so brilliant at demonstrating how to apply make-up looks and how to use specific products, amazing. Anyway, the video below really caught my attention     The object of the challenge is to buy a full-face of make up for £2o. Sam doesn’t quite manage it and goes over budget slightly. Her choices are nice though and she looks great, so it’s useful information if you’re looking for decent products on a very restricted budget. It got me…

Face of the Day: Autumn Photography Fail

September 6, 2012

Hai! In a different season, this would be a proper photo of my face *Sigh* It’s happened, with the sun rising at about 6.30am now, it’s still coming in at a sidelong angle by the time I’m ready for work and taking Face of the Day shots. I may have to give up on them or save them for non-office days! I call this my “LIGHT BEARD” I took these pictures to share with you one of my favourite eye make up looks to go with my black hair. Thanks to the lighting, well, you can barely see it in these pictures but, it’s subtle. The subtleness… it’s hardly seeable, you see? Dim, shadowy… drat local weather conditions! This was going to be cool but I just look tired. For this make-up look I used YSL Touche Eclat Foundation, and Benefit It Stick Concealer. For the eye make up I…

Face of the Day: Glory Palette and YSL Touche Éclat Foundation

I love the eyeshadows in the Sleek MakeUP Glory Palette so much I might do a post with each shade (eventually!). This one is about the green shade “District” in action. It’s such a strong, lovely green colour. So easy to apply, buttery and pigmented, stays where it is put without noticeable fallout. Excellent stuff! I really love this eyeshadow. Even to the slightly mad extent of pairing it with red lipstick! What do you think – red and green? Just call me Mrs. Santa Claus I guess! I was trying to find a new facial expression (above) I’m not sure I pulled it off… As well as bright green eyeshadow, and bright red lip gloss, I’m also wearing the Touche Eclat Foundation that I reviewed a few days ago. This product is really growing on me as the colour is so lovely. It’s a characteristic of expensive foundations like the Chanel…

Face Of The Day: Go Drag or Go Home ;)

I’ve been on my own at home for a week now, and I don’t mind telling you, I’ve gone a little strange. Yesterday I decided to dig out some of my brightest eyeshadows and try out a big BIG eye look that would frighten me whenever I caught my reflection in  the mirror for the rest of the day Drag make-up doesn’t come naturally to me, even if I try to channel Annie Lennox while wielding my eyeshadow brush. I’m pretty sure the reason for this is that men’s facial features are, in general, pretty big. My facial features are undeniably pretty small (Eddie Izzard, how I envy you!) giving me a smaller space to fit in all those dramatic curves and highlights a proper show-off eye demands. Given an endless afternoon of nothing to do, I thought I’d give it a shot anyway I only “overdid” the eyes for…

Face of the day: Hey La Hey La My Boyfriend’s Back

I took these Face of the Day pics while watching out of the window for the return of the heroic boy who has been working in Oxford last week, and came back for a 24 hour flying visit just to see me (500 mile round trip!). Quite a lot of make up on for a Saturday afternoon but I thought I’d better tidy myself up a bit, right? As a much made-up lady, I’m lucky to have a partner who appreciates it when I make an effort with my make up but also tells me I’m pretty when I’m not wearing any (top tip guys!).  Although I’ve known him for 10 years, I’ve been loving cosmetics for twice as long as that, and I really can’t imagine ditching mascara and eyeliner if my partner didn’t like them. So I’m quite happy that he appreciates, but doesn’t expect, the colourful additional prettiness…

Face of the Day: Urban Decay Favourite Eyes

June 5, 2012

Some eyeshadows I’ve had for years, repurchased, always come back to. These three from Urban Decay are definitely in my top 5 for my quintessential eyeshadow picks. To be found in the Sustainable Shadow Box, Grifter, Kiddie Pool and Flash are three eyeshadow shades I have worn on more occasions than I can remember. This image is taken from www.UrbanDecay.com as my own palette is so well used it isn’t so easy to read. Grifter is an intensely glittery pale pink, Kiddie Pool is a lovely strong sparkly pale blue, and Flash is a purple with flashy pink shimmeriness depending how you blend it. For this eyeshadow look I applied Grifter over the whole lid (but not quite up to the browbone) and then Kiddie Pool to the outer third of the lid. I then lined my whole eye with Collection 2000 Extreme 24h Eyeliner pen in purple. I applied…

Face of the Day: New hair day

Hi guys! Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet, I’ve been off having a cold and laying up in bed, started reading The Hunger Games and really enjoying it too. As frequently happens when I’m ill, and when I’m not ill to be honest, I’ve changed my hair colour! I wanted to go for something much lighter than I had, but that could be conceivably a natural human hair colour, not the ribena-berries shades that I’ve gone for lately. I lightened it with cream lightener then added two different brown colours to give it the shade I wanted. Oh so time consuming but worth it! I realise looking at these shots that I was a bit quick off the bat and should have taken the time to smooth down the post dye frizzies with some serum or Argan oil, so unfortunately this is the hair in its raw rough-dried form rather than the…

Guest Post: Jo’s Blonde Ambition

I’m delighted to bring you a fabulous guest post from my lovely friend Jo today! As a very clever and wordy lady she doesn’t need a long introduction from me so I shall pass this blog entry over into her capable hands, enjoy! ~~~ Hello everyone! I’ve never guest blogged anywhere before and I’ve never written about make up before, but with the help of the lovely Bee, I’m hoping I can pull off both! The first thing you need to know about me when it comes to make up is that I’m blonde. And I’m not talking choose your own shade, but still have nicely defined dark eyebrows and eyelashes blonde. I’m talking naturally so blonde you have to tilt me right into the light to even notice I have eyelashes blonde. Here is the obligatory no make up pic to illustrate said blondeness (and no, those aren’t hints of ginger you can see!). I’m not…
