Wantables – lovely beauty things

Something I love about beauty products is the detail. Sometimes products aren’t just appealing formulas to put on your skin,  but they’re nice objects as well. Something you buy to use often, to touch and hold it, it’s so much nicer when it looks and feels good too. This is definitely a consideration for my friends who buy a lot of premium cosmetics. You don’t want to reach into your designer handbag and pull out a cruddy lipgloss with the label peeling off, right? It’s not only premium brands that have gorgeous and sexy packaging though. Like the blusher from Sleek Cosmetics in “Life’s a Peach”. It was love at first sight when I saw it in Superdrug last week. I’d been pining for the discontinued Urban Decay blush in “Score” when i spotted it and given that it was only £4.19 and oh_so_beautiful I just couldn’t leave it there.…

For the love of Last Call

Hi Guys! I’ve been discovering this week that having a full time job and doing research for my blog leaves me with very little time to write my actual blog. I’m dreaming of a day when I can spend more of my life doing this and less of my life working in a finance office! Things have been very busy at work this week and it’s been a bit stressful. I find that weeks like that are the times that I actually value my beauty routine most. Along with my 45 minute walk to work, getting ready in the morning is a really calming ritual. It’s kind of a collaboration between my hands and my eyes leaving the “clever” part of my brain free to relax and become centered. It takes a few minutes but I get up in time and I think it’s really worth it. After writing rhapsodies on…

Dithering for my Last Call

Dithering for my Last Call

So, this blog may be new, but you’ve probably figured out that little bits of snark aside I’m a huge fan of Urban Decay. One of my very favourite UD cosmetics is Last Call Eyeshadow. I’ve had it in at least two palettes and used it all up both times. It’s a brown/purple shimmery shade that is really versatile as it catches the light so differently depending on how you apply it and what you pair it with. Here on the left it’s applied heavily with a bright liner for an evening look, on the right it is applied lightly in the crease for a day look. There’s one problem with falling madly in love with a shade from a palette – when it’s all gone, what do you do? Do you buy another palette?Hmm… that’s like £25. For one Eye Shadow? Ahh, but you get 10 shades! Oh, but I only…

Test Driving the Book of Shadows Vol. 4

So… the 16 eye shadows from the Urban Decay Book of Shadows Vol. IV I posted about the other day are seriously kicking some ass. By “ass”, I mean “eyes”, and by kicking I mean “looking awesome and lasting all day on” . I’ve tried quite a few of them out. This post is my attempt at creating a smoky-ish eye. For this eye shadow look, I used mostly Zephyr, Crystal, Hijack and Gunmetal Click to continue reading to see some more pictures of the eye shadows in action

Like a B.O.S.: Urban Decay Book of Shadows Vol. 4

Urban Decay Book of Shadows Vol. IV arrived last week! This is the shiny, shiny box it came in! The back of the box with the classic UD  layout, letting us know what’s inside. The eyeshadows are the main players, but this kit also features a generous miniature primer potion, a travel size Supercurl Curling Mascara and a full size 24/7 Liquid Liner in “Perversion”. The kit also has a miniature speaker and access to online make up tutorials – I think the speaker is definitely a first for Urban Decay. Do any other eye make up kits have speakers? It’s certainly the first one I’ve seen.   Click to read more for loads of pictures of the Book of Shadows Vol. 4 kit and a review of all its features…

Urban Decay Eyeliner: 24/7 “Perversion”

I don’t know what kind of Google hit delights I have opened myself up to using that as my post title, but that really is the name of this product: Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion .   Now, I’ve been seen to remark, on this very blog, that black liquid eyeliners are much of a muchness. I’m here to tell you, ladies and, well, mostly ladies, (unless any chaps have landed here by googling “24/7 Perversion”) I’m here to tell you, I was wrong. This liquid eyeliner is astonishing. The tiny brush allows amazing control and the product is a deep opaque black which dries quickly, lasts perfectly until you choose to take it off and looks brilliant. As you can see from the super-duper close up I was able to line my lower lashes with an amazingly fine  line, something I can’t manage with any other brush…

Urban Decay Supercurl Mascara – Amazing!

Check out this little guy – a small size of Urban Decay’s Supercurl Curling Mascara I put some on earlier, just a couple of quick coats, kind of slapdash, no curling beforehand, no priming, nothing. And LOOK what it has done to my lashes! That is INSANE curl! It’s like, sick! If sick were good, and I hear it is now… I am utterly stunned by this curling result. Absolute win. CK-ing a good deal? Designer eyes, early 90′s prices!

A couple of months ago I had this weird bout of nostalgia to the make up I used to wear when I was about 15 or 16. Remember make up back then? Rimmel, Boots 17, only having one or two of each thing and using everything up to the last scrap? Those were the freakin’ days! Ok, they probably look much cooler in hindsight, and having a bazillion cosmetics to choose from these days does have it’s advantages One of the cosmetics that I found I didn’t have was the matte brown shades I used to wear a lot back then. Why did I wear them? EVERYONE had a default kit of brown eyeshadows. Blue eyed girls wore brown eyeshadow in the day and pink, or blue for special  (although I was blue eyeshadow crazy and still am), and peach blusher, and that strange heathery pink shimmery lipstick in the…

Techno-beauty excitement!

My Urban Decay Book of Shadows Vol IV has been despatched! It could be here tomorrow! Thanks Debenhams Looks like I ordered it in the sale just in time, as I can’t see it on their site any more. House of Fraser still have it for the sale price, although I didn’t order it from them as you have to spend £50 to get free delivery, and the Debenhams delivery was free anyway. How awesome is this going to be!? *Bounce bounce*. If I’m lucky it will be here tomorrow along with  a couple of other UD treats I purchased from the super value eBay shop ClickFragrance with the very last of my Christmas money.  Heh. Well, my generous benefactors did *insist* I spend my Christmas money on *me* right? And I don’t know anyone else who would wear red eyeliner, so, therefore… booya! *Grin*
