Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream Review

February 29, 2012

I’m a girl who loves my foundation. Full coverage is great for me! There’s nothing particularly wrong with my skin, it’s not perfect, but it doesn’t need medical-grade makeup to cover it. Foundation is fun for me though, I like applying a total coverage and getting a mask-like finish. It’s a matter of personal taste and my taste sways way toward the artificial look. When I heard about BB creams my ears pricked up “Perfect skin”? Could this be some kind of ULTIMATE FOUNDATION? Then I listened a bit more and heard the rest of the description. Ah it’s a new name for Tinted Moisturiser, I thought, and stopped listening. Those of us who were teenagers in the nineties will remember this. Tinted Moisturiser didn’t exist. Then it did exist. Then it was Everywhere.  All the brands made one, they were the “answer”. Hmm. Well, they were the “answer” to…

Sali is the fabulous make up talent within dynamic duo Flashes and Lashes. As Ms Moo Make Up she creates stunning looks for photoshoots and offers a truly beautifying experience to all who work with her. Check out the galleries to see her work!  Sali and her business partner Emma are young women with talent and drive – they’ve built up their own enterprise from scratch, and I’m so inspired by both the work that they do and the way that they do it. They deserve my support and I’m hoping also a few moments of your time too! The Enterprise Nation fund offers small grants to those whose business ideas fit their criteria. Once an application is approved, the business idea needs to gain enough votes on the site for Enterprise Nation to award the funding. If you take a few seconds to visit the site and place a vote,…

Guest Post: Lana Loves Gosh Purple Heart!

February 28, 2012

For my second ever guest post, the lovely Lana shares her love of her ultimate nail polish discovery…   I’ve always been a magpie at heart, I’m a real sucker for anything shiny. If it’s glittery, irridescent and catches the light in a certain way I’m all over it, and since I was about 13 I’ve always wanted a nail polish with an oil slick sheen to it. There’s something about that kind of sheen that just appeals to my magpie heart, it’s sultry and beautiful. Sadly I’ve spent many years being decieved by the way pigments look compressed in their bottles and the end finish has never been how I wanted it until I stumbled across 055 Purple Heart by GOSH cosmetics. I had almost given up hope and didn’t expect much from it, but at £4.99 I didn’t think I had anything to lose and boy, it didn’t…

Superdrug 2True Range 3-for-£5 Review

February 27, 2012
By
tutorial etc 064

Superdrug has had the 2True range in their stores for, oh, years now. They’re a budget beauty brand on a little stand usually tucked away at the back. All items in the range are priced at the same £1.99 each and they’re permanently on a 3-for-£5 multibuy promotion. I have had good success in the past with all the 2True products I’ve bought. I like the nail varnish, particularly shade 42, I really rate the waterproof liquid liner, and the plumping lip gloss and the concealer are good subs for more expensive versions. For the price of one Collection 2000 item you can get 2 or 3 of these and they represent comparable quality – good news. Feeling up for a challenge, I took my 5 pound coins along to Superdrug  to try something new.   From L-R (above) I picked up 2True Colour Drench Lipstick in Shade 1, 2True Crystal…

Greatest Hits of Town

Greatest Hits of Town

This weekend I popped up to Plymouth to do a smidge of clothes shopping and a whole lot of beauty blogger ligging around, in order to bring you the latest from the world of the-buying-of–things, which we’re all in occasionally.   First of all I want to give a gold star (not that I do that but after yesterday I might start) to the ladies at The Body Shop in Plymouth who were absolutely wonderful and could not have done more to be helpful, friendly and kind. I’ve been in lots of branches of The Body Shop, but Plymouth is far and away my favourite, and of all the beauty counters I visited yesterday (every one in Plymouth, by the end of the day *foot ache*) they stood out as  the best. Thanks, ladies   Secondly… what’s about? Well…   Boots is giving a £5 No.7 voucher with every purchase over £5 in store.…

Red or Undead – Red Eyeshadow Action

February 25, 2012
By
red not dead 067

So there has been some discussion earlier of the fundamental question of life, the universe and everything (I kid) which is “Does red eyeshadow make me look like I’ve been up all night smoking crack?” My position in this proto-debate is that it doesn’t. I think it looks cool. Edgy – not really for work or the supermarket, but not brain-hungry zombie material. I also think it has a bit of a fearsome reputation which puts people off trying it, and I’m a big fan of the trying of things.   When I say that it “doesn’t” make me look like  zombie, I should probably qualify that statement with “doesn’t always” or maybe “doesn’t have to” . The problem with red and eyes is that the eye area is red when it is unhappy, unhealthy, or addicted to eating brainsss to survive. So if you apply red colour to this…

Gosh, pink IS the new goth!

February 24, 2012
By
goth pink 062

Do you think pink is a gothy colour for eyes? As an ex- teenage officionado of all things black, velvet, lace and spooky, I know the feeling of getting my goth on in my very spooky bones. Whenever I see myself with pink eyeshadow and black eyeliner, I hear The Sisters of Mercy start up Temple of Love and catch a tantalising whiff of cider and blackcurrant… I’m frowning because of the darkness in my soul I accept that it’s not wildly gothy, it’s not classically gothy, but I guess it’s my interpretation of the velvet jacket and New Rock boots which still dress my soul, if not my body… I think I feel this way about pink as the classic goth eyeshadow shades of purple, lilac and perhaps dark blue, just don’t work on me. My eyes are too deep, shadowed and (coff) small to carry off the dramatically sexy…

Not Quite 7 Day Nails

February 22, 2012
By
03

Well… I pledged to give my NYC Expert Last a chance to live up to it’s 7 Day claim… this is what happened 1. Saturday, applied carefully.. looked awesome 2. Sunday, a few tiny chips appeared at the corners of the ends of the nails. Subtle, not a dealbreaker 3. Monday, polish started to wear off the nail tips, bigger chips chipped off. Started looking a bit ropey really. 4. Tuesday, More than ropey looking, every nail chipped and worn looking, spent whole day wanting to sit on my hands. Tuesday evening: took the pictures for this post, whipped the polish off enthusiastically! I make that reasonably presentable nails from Saturday lunchtime to Monday lunchtime.. 48 hours. So… what went wrong? I love the colour of this polish and I really enjoyed wearing it before it started looking a bit tired. I know I could get a good couple more days…
