Nailed It

So this is the final episode in the trilogy: Revlon nail enamel in 095 Facets of Fuchsia   This is my first experience with the glittery nail varnish trend. I’ve never tried anything by OPI (quite the confession!)or anything particularly jazzy. I wasn’t tempted by any kind of crackle polish either so this is a new area for me. With the winter drawing in, and Revlon getting in on the sparkly act, it seemed to be the right time to try it. This is a black nail varnish with fuchsia-pink glitter in small and large pieces. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was opaque in 2 coats (although when I applied it properly I used a base coat so that probably helped). It is a very pretty polish, it’s eye catching without being too gaudy or too gothic. It dried quickly and lasted for a good three days before…

Cool Gold

Cool Gold

As promised: Revlon nail enamel in 146 Gold Coin Gold Coin in indoor-light This varnish is one of the metallic trend that are about at the moment, but actually it’s a very rare thing indeed: a cool-toned gold. That is, a gold shade that suits cool skin tones. It seems to achieve this by being based on a silver metallic base suspended in a wash of pale gold enamel, although this only becomes obvious when removing it. With flash   It’s on a par with the other Revlon polishes I’ve used, easy to apply, opaque in two coats, fast drying, long lasting and chip resistant. It has a metallic finish which, on close inspection, is made up of tiny glittery flecks rather than an attempt at a smooth metal. This is actually a really good thing as it avoids the issue that the other metal/foil finish polishes have in that…

Nothing Says Get Well Soon Like Nail Polish

Hi Guys! I had flu recently, but I’m feeling much better. I’m thinking this must be a least 95% thanks to my Mum very kindly sending me a Boots gift card in a “Get Well” card on Friday. Mums ♥ . I decided to indulge in one of my favourite things: Revlon nail polish. I bought three shades (THREE FOR TWO AT THE MOMENT YOU GUYS) in three different finishes 1. Revlon Nail Enamel in 146 Gold Coin 2. Revlon Top Speed Fast Dry Nail Enamel in 607 Hazy 3. Revlon Nail Enamel in 095 Facets of Fuchia Today I’m wearing the 607 Hazy:   note: OMG you guys how do you take pics of your nails without making monstrous clawlike hand poses? I must have tried 20! So… what do you think? This stuff glides on effortlessly and looks ok with one coat, though I used two for a…

Face of the Day: Eyebrow Redux

Hey guys After a few slightly unusual beauty blog entries, I thought I’d bring you some more standard beauty blog fare in the form of a Face of the Day (FOTD) post. These are usually bloggers showing a makeup look they’re wearing and the products used to create it. These pictures were taken a little while ago and (hopefully) show that the Cosmopolitan Brow Styling kit can be used for good as well as evil! I’ll be using these things: And creating my normal autumn face, got to start somewhere, right?

What Would Bee Buy? 2011 Part 2

December 21, 2011

Here’s WWBB part 2, all my favourite things in hair care…   Haircare Shampoo:I’m going to be completely unconventional and nominate a strong smelling medicated shampoo as my essential pick for hair cleansing. Alphosyl 2in1 Shampoo  doesn’t have a lot of boudoir glamour, it’s true. What it does have is incredible power to clean hair and soothe irritated scalp. It’s the cleaning I like best. My hair is very thick and I really hate product build up on it. Using this shampoo once a week keeps it super clean and shiny and smelling herbal. An acquired taste but I’ve used this for…uhh.. 15 years and love it as much today as I did the first go. Price varies between £4 and £8 (urk) for 250ml depending where you buy it. Conditioner: My hair’s conditioning need varies depending whether it’s lightened or not, but for everyday conditioning and a really reasonable…

What Would Bee Buy? 2011 Part 1

December 20, 2011

So, we’re nearly at the end of 2011, and in lieu of a review of the year since I only started this blog a few days ago, I thought I’d go through a list of my favourite things. I’m not an expert, but I’ve tried a whole heap of things, so I thought it might be good to keep a record of which is the best thing in each category as a reference, see if you guys agree with me, see how it changes over time. There will be four posts starting with this one with the list of Skincare things, then Haircare, Body & Bath, and Make-up Ok, here goes … Skincare Exfoliator: For facial exfoliation, I really don’t get on with scrubs that contain large pieces of grit, e.g. bits of pumice or apricot stone, because they are either too big and seem to just fall off in…

A Newbie’s Adventures in Premium Skincare for Special Skin: Part 2

So here is the concluding chapter in my skincare story. There are pictures of my skin without make-up on for your enjoyment, taken this summer, there’s some pictures of my order from House of Fraser, and there is this paragraph: After a week… my skin was better. Much, much better. So much better I was able to go without foundation and look much better than I had with it on a week previously. I was shocked at the betterness. My skin was (by comparison) beautiful. My makeup went on better, stayed longer, the lumps and bumps had gone right down and the tides of grease and soreness at my hairline and “sideburn” area reduced to almost undetectability. I marvelled at my complexion, I actually felt like I was dreaming for a minute there. Wonderful. Click below to read the whole post

A Newbie’s Adventures in Premium Skincare for Special Skin: Part 1

December 18, 2011
By

I wrote this post back in the summer… It’s all about my especially sensitive skin and how I’ve found some products that help. I was completely new to premium skincare and this is a genuine account of my experiences. Your skin might not be like mine, and, as with all of these things, your mileage may vary , but if you’d like to read about it, click below for the full post. I’ll post the concluding  chapter tomorrow.
